The trial of Jairinho and Monique Medeiros entered its final phase on Monday (1) with testimony from the defense's last witness.
Expert Leonardo Tauil reaffirmed that Henry Borel's cause of death was internal hemorrhage from a liver laceration due to blunt force. He stated that simulations in the apartment found no object that could explain the injury as a domestic accident.
Jefferson Evangelista Corrêa, technical assistant for Jairinho's defense, challenged the conclusions. He said the more than 9,000 chest compressions at Hospital Barra D’Or may have worsened the hemorrhage and that the medical record has flaws.
Monique Medeiros left the courtroom during the display of photos of the injuries. The defendants' interrogations are scheduled for Tuesday (2). Jairinho faces charges of qualified homicide and Monique faces charges of homicide by omission.
