A 79-year-old retiree from Upper Bavaria has once again helped catch scammers. Bruno Schmaus saw through a shock call and assisted police in making an arrest.
Bruno Schmaus received a call on Monday in which an unknown person pretended to be his crying son. A supposed police officer then demanded 80,000 euros in bail for an alleged fatal accident.
Schmaus immediately saw through the scam and stalled the callers until police arrested the 21-year-old caller in Pullach near Munich. At a press conference he said: "Da habe ich richtig sauber Vollgas gegeben mit dem Theater".
This is already the fourth case in which Schmaus enabled arrests. He has helped with five arrests in four cases total, including shock calls, a grandchild trick and carpet fraud. Police advise hanging up immediately on such calls and filing a report.
