Air India flight AI479 was operating from Delhi to Amritsar. On the night of 22 June 2026 around 8 p.m., the aircraft was asked to hold at Amritsar airport due to runway inspection after a bird strike. It had to perform a go-around.
During radar vectoring the plane briefly entered Pakistan airspace. The DGCA said the event was coordinated with Pakistan ATC authorities. The aircraft was diverted to Delhi and landed safely there.
Almost an hour later the plane took off again for Amritsar and landed after 10 p.m. Air India stated the incident has been reported to regulatory authorities and is under internal investigation. The DGCA confirmed interim action against the air traffic controller and operating crew but did not specify the measures.
