Google has released Android 17 as part of its June 2026 Pixel Drop update, introducing a new Bubbles tool designed to improve app multitasking on Pixel devices.
The update includes AirDrop support for older Pixel models and expanded Magic Cue functionality across more chat apps. Android 17 is described as stable with no major bugs reported so far.
Bubbles allows users to create floating pop-up windows for apps that can be grouped together on the screen. Pressing and holding an app icon opens the option to bubble it, and additional apps can be added to form a floating taskbar.
The feature remembers previously used apps for quicker access and lets users minimize groups into icons. It is positioned as more intuitive than split-screen mode on standard phone displays.
To enable it, users go to Settings, then Notifications, and turn on the Bubbles toggle under Conversations. The rollout is underway for compatible Pixel phones.
