Apple has included several CarPlay improvements in the iOS 27 developer beta released after this week's WWDC keynote. The updates focus on audio controls, vehicle integration and limited video playback.
The changes were not highlighted during the main event on Monday but appear in the developer notes. Users will gain audio scrubbing in the Now Playing screen and a floating Audio MiniPlayer for easier access during navigation. Navigation apps can now exchange route and waypoint data with compatible vehicles. This feature supports better EV range planning by allowing the car to suggest charging stops based on the proposed route. Developers can build video apps for supported vehicles, with an automatic switch to audio-only mode when driving resumes. Siri AI integration and improved wireless reliability are also part of the update. The developer beta is available now. A public beta is scheduled for July and full release for September.
