Apple smart glasses debut pushed back to 2027 over privacy

Apple has delayed its planned smart glasses launch to focus on privacy protections. The company is exploring hardware and software changes ahead of a 2027 reveal.

Apple is grappling with major privacy concerns for its upcoming smart glasses. Bloomberg's Mark Gurman reported that teams in the Vision hardware group see privacy as priority No. 1 and are developing new features not available on current products.

The company is considering several options to address these issues. These include software that disables recording if the indicator light is tampered with, similar to Meta's approach. Other ideas involve versions without a camera or with a camera that cannot capture photos or video.

Apple's smart glasses were initially scheduled to debut this year. The timeline has reportedly been pushed back, with a reveal expected at the next WWDC in 2027 and a release by the end of that year. The delay comes as Meta's AI glasses face a class action lawsuit over privacy.
