ARCA transforms public space in Oaxaca

Theater company Idiotas Teatro brings ARCA to Oaxaca, a street show with Pasatono Orquesta that turns urban spaces into artistic and poetic gatherings. Drawing from the Mixtec cicada symbolism, the production encourages viewers to see the city anew via music, physical theater, and visual elements.

Following the success of shows like A golpe de calcetín at Teatro Julio Castillo and Maroma at Ex Hacienda San José de Atzompa, Idiotas Teatro returns with ARCA, a stage proposal aimed at broadening cultural access through public space interventions.

The company describes the show as “a shared journey: a cicada song turned into a rolling stage that invites looking at the city, and its inhabitants, with new eyes.” It features live music composed by Rubén Luengas and performed by Pasatono Orquesta. The large-scale scenic device, designed by Edgar Mora, serves as a dynamic container engaging with actors, enhanced by Alejandro Magallanes's graphic identity and Azucena Galicia's poetic costumes.

Dramaturgy and direction are handled by Fernando Reyes Reyes and Cristian David from the National System of Art Creators, with Diego Santana in the cast contributing to the sonic and physical universe. ARCA emerges from a national creative lab enriched by international perspectives, including Catalan street theater expert Jordi Durán and Chilean designer-producer Katiuska Valenzuela.

Performances are scheduled in Oaxaca from November 19 to 24 and December 11 to 16, promoting collective experiences in contemporary Mexican theater.
