Nathaniel Scott Gotham, 32, was arrested in Mesa, Arizona, after allegedly stabbing his wife more than a dozen times on July 11. He told police he snapped and wanted her to stop talking.
Mesa police responded to the couple's home around 4:30 p.m. after Gotham called 911 and confessed to the attack. Officers found him on top of his wife, who was bleeding from 16 stab wounds to her back plus injuries to her head, neck, face and hands.
Gotham waived his Miranda rights and admitted retrieving a steak knife from the kitchen. He said he had reached a breaking point in their loveless marriage and wanted to hurt her, according to the probable cause affidavit.
He was charged with one count of attempted first-degree murder and held on $500,000 bond at the Lower Buckeye Jail. Gotham is scheduled to appear for a preliminary hearing on July 21.
