The game featured creative play, with Van Foreest's 25...e5? leading to his resignation after five moves. Erigaisi now shares the lead with Yagiz Kaan Erdogmus at 3.5/5, boosting him to world number seven on the live ratings list. Erdogmus drew a 104-move marathon against Andy Woodward, escaping a pawn-down queen endgame where Woodward missed a winning chance near the time control. GM Magnus Carlsen won a tense 41-move game against Zhu Jiner in the King's Indian Attack, despite admitting it was shaky. Carlsen said, “It was incredibly shaky! I thought early on that I was doing alright, but I couldn’t figure it out, and then I lost the thread.
