AV Linux 25 releases with Enlightenment and Moksha options

AV Linux 25, a multimedia production distribution, has been released based on MX Linux 25 and Debian 13 Trixie. It introduces two variants: one with the Enlightenment desktop and a new edition featuring the Moksha desktop from Bodhi Linux. The update targets content creators with low-latency kernels and enhanced tools for audio and video work.

Glen MacArthur, known by the handle Gmaq, has released AV Linux 25 after a period of development. This major version builds on MX Linux 25, codenamed Infinity, which itself derives from Debian 13 Trixie. MX Linux 25 was released about two weeks prior to AV Linux 25's announcement on November 28, 2025.

The distribution offers two flavors for users. The standard AV Linux (AVL) uses the Enlightenment 0.27.1 desktop environment, featuring a flat look, optional E apps and modules, and a new right-click desktop menu similar to Openbox. It includes light and dark Ease themes, an external archive of Enlightenment and GTK themes, and GTK4 theme linking with libadwaita. A first-run setup wizard assists newcomers, running once after fresh installation from the live system.

The new MX Moksha 25 edition incorporates the Moksha desktop from the Bodhi Linux project, providing a colorful interface and a minimal app set for customization. Both variants share custom AV Linux utilities, enhanced file actions in the Thunar file manager, and an improved PipeWire experience. File actions enable audio conversion with PACPL, joining MP4 and MKV files via FFmpeg, SFZ sound library creation with makesfz, image resizing using ImageMagick, video downloads with yt-dlp, virtual machine handling with Quickemu, and locating large files.

Under the hood, AV Linux 25 employs a low-latency PREEMPT_RT Liquorix 6.12 LTS kernel with threaded IRQs for better reaction times in music and video production. It includes the Wine4VST utility for Windows VST audio plugins, built-in AppImage support, and full versions of applications like GIMP, Inkscape, Ardour, Kdenlive, and Cinelerra-GG. Hardware support comes from MX Linux's AHS repository, with efficient low RAM usage, attractive compositing, and display scaling.

Previously, AV Linux switched to MX Linux 23 and Debian 12 Bookworm with version 23.1 in early 2024, followed by 23.5 in January 2025. ISOs for AV Linux 25 and MX Moksha 25 are available on the official website.
