Jimenez, who turns 29 this year, burst onto the scene as a rookie with the Chicago White Sox in 2019, hitting 31 home runs in just 122 games. His power persisted into the COVID-shortened 2020 season with 14 homers, but injuries limited him to 55 games in 2021, where he managed 10 home runs. In 2022, playing 84 games, Jimenez batted .295 with 16 homers. The following year, 2023, he appeared in 120 games, slashing .272 with 18 home runs.
However, his performance declined in 2024, as he hit only six home runs in 98 games while batting .238. Jimenez did not play in the majors during the 2025 season. Despite these setbacks, the Blue Jays see upside in the former top prospect, viewing the signing as a low-risk opportunity to revive his prodigious power at the plate.
