Brazil drew 1-1 with Morocco in their 2026 World Cup opener on Saturday (13) at MetLife Stadium in East Rutherford, New Jersey.
Morocco took the lead in the 21st minute through Saibari after an assist from Brahim Díaz. Vinicius Junior equalized for Brazil with a lobbed shot.
International media outlets criticized Brazil’s performance. The Athletic likened the second-half improvement to “stubbing your toe on the corner of the table”. Marca newspaper praised Vinicius Junior but described the team as “a canary with a broken wing”.
In the dressing room, coach Carlo Ancelotti pressed the squad. Goalkeeper Alisson said “we have to be self-critical”. Full-back Danilo acknowledged that the team “has to be thankful that it ended 1-1 in the first half”.
Ancelotti signalled changes for the next match against Haiti, scheduled for Friday (19) in Philadelphia. The coach said “I have to use the squad, not fix a line-up”.
