The death of Deputy Chief Charlie Reid on Chicago P.D. could not be avoided, showrunner Gwen Sigan has said. Although she enjoyed working with actor Shawn Hatosy, the character's arc led only to one conclusion.
Hatosy portrayed the corrupt cop in season 12 of the NBC series, which ran from 2024 to 2025. Reid clashed with Sergeant Hank Voight across nine episodes before being killed by Rennie Otero in the finale.
Sigan told ScreenRant last year that the writers considered sparing Reid but found no way to redeem him. "We couldn't find the perfect way. It just felt like this is what it was all leading to," she said.
Hatosy described his time on the show as positive, especially sharing scenes with Jason Beghe. He is now playing Dr. Jack Abbot on HBO's The Pitt and has won an Emmy for the role.
