Chief Justice Martha Koome has warned about the rise in criminal gangs allegedly funded by politicians in Kenya.
Speaking in a television interview, Koome said a Crime Research Centre report shows there are more than 600 gangs operating in the country, and the number may have reached close to 1,000.
She explained that some politicians form and fund these groups to advance their political agendas, and the gangs participate in political meetings.
A few days later, People’s Liberation Party leader Martha Karua called for dialogue during a church service in Ahero to address the rise in hooligan groups used in politics.
