Chinese central authorities will continue rolling out more policies and measures that benefit the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region during the 15th Five-Year Plan period, a spokesperson said on Wednesday. The central authorities will make further arrangements in the 15th Five-Year Plan for national economic and social development to support Hong Kong in leveraging its unique strengths and playing a significant role.
On Wednesday, at a press conference ahead of the National People's Congress (NPC) annual session, Lou Qinjian, spokesperson for the fourth session of the 14th NPC, stated that Chinese central authorities will continue rolling out more policies and measures that benefit the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region during the 15th Five-Year Plan period (2026-2030).
Lou emphasized that the central authorities will make further arrangements in the 15th Five-Year Plan for national economic and social development to support Hong Kong in leveraging its unique strengths and playing a significant role. The NPC annual session is scheduled to open on Thursday.
Meanwhile, at the opening meeting of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference (CPPCC) National Committee, CPPCC Chairman Wang Huning called in the annual work report for cities in the Greater Bay Area, including Hong Kong, Macau, and the nine other Guangdong cities, to better align their rules and regulations. Wang noted that the CPPCC had deliberated over the past year on strengthening rule alignment across the Greater Bay Area.
The report also highlighted the CPPCC's efforts to better support Hong Kong's integration into national development by organizing duty visits for local delegates. CPPCC members from Hong Kong and Macau had organized 107 on-campus outreach programmes to promote national affairs among students. More than 200 local delegates had been invited to attend China's Victory Day military parade in Beijing last year. In last year's work report, the CPPCC had rolled out a scheme to facilitate exchanges between the city's delegates and their mainland Chinese counterparts.
These initiatives reflect central support for Hong Kong to promote its integration into national development.
