Universal's The Odyssey, Christopher Nolan's follow-up to Oppenheimer, is tracking for a $200 million-plus global opening this weekend.
The film is projected to earn between $85 million and $100 million in North America and another $110 million overseas across 73 territories. Advance ticket sales have reached $30 million to $40 million, driven largely by strong demand for IMAX 70mm screenings.
The star-studded cast includes Matt Damon, Robert Pattinson, Zendaya, Tom Holland, Anne Hathaway, Jon Bernthal and Lupita Nyong’o. The three-hour R-rated movie opens in the United States on Thursday with 2 p.m. previews.
Nolan's previous film Oppenheimer opened to $181.1 million worldwide in comparable markets. The Odyssey has no major studio competition this weekend, though the UK World Cup schedule could affect attendance in one key territory.
