Coritiba beat Corinthians 2-0 on Wednesday night (March 11) at Neo Química Arena in the 5th round of the Brazilian Championship, ending a winless streak since September 2011. Goals came from Jacy and Lucas Ronier, with two assists from Josué. Jacy, who scored first, left the field by ambulance after suffering a concussion.
The match took place at Neo Química Arena in São Paulo for the 5th round of the 2026 Brazilian Championship. Coritiba, which hadn't beaten Corinthians since September 2011 – when they won 1-0 at home –, finally broke the taboo after 18 encounters, in which the São Paulo team recorded 12 wins and six draws. It was also the Coxa's first away victory against the Timão since July 13, 2003, at Estádio Morumbi.
In the first half, with few opportunities, Corinthians controlled possession but didn't test goalkeeper Pedro Rangel. At the 37th minute, Josué took a corner, and Jacy headed the ball, which deflected off the post before going in, opening the score.
At halftime, English player Jesse Lingard, newly signed, was introduced to Corinthians fans during his press conference.
In the second half, Corinthians pressed, but Coritiba extended the lead at the 8th minute: Josué passed to Lucas Ronier, who headed past Hugo Souza. At the 17th minute, Jacy blocked a shot from Carrillo with his head, fell, and received medical attention for over six minutes. With the concussion protocol activated, he was fitted with a cervical collar, stretchered off, and taken by ambulance for hospital evaluation.
Coritiba stated: "Defender Jacy suffered a concussion and is being taken to the hospital for medical evaluation and tests. We will provide updates on his condition soon. Strength, our defender! The Green and White Nation is with you."
The result moved Coritiba to 5th place with seven points, while Corinthians sat in 8th, also on seven. Both teams play on Sunday (March 15): Coxa hosts Remo at Couto Pereira, and Timão faces Santos at Vila Belmiro.
