New evidence from the Madlanga Commission has raised fresh questions about Julius Malema's ties to a senior police official ahead of November local elections.
An affidavit presented to the Madlanga Commission alleges that EFF leader Julius Malema used his parliamentary position to assist Major-General Feroz Khan, deputy head of SAPS Crime Intelligence, in corrupt acts. The claims include directing then-EFF MP Mbuyiseni Ndlozi to pose a question aimed at removing inspector-general of intelligence Setlhomamaru Dintwe, and requesting details of the complainant in the VBS scandal.
Khan is scheduled to testify at the commission in three weeks. Malema has not yet responded publicly to the latest developments. The relationship between the two first became public at an EFF gala dinner in July 2023 marking the party's 10th anniversary.
The EFF saw its national vote share drop from 10.8% to 9.5% in the 2024 elections. Key figures including Mbuyiseni Ndlozi and Floyd Shivambu have since left the party. Local elections are set for November.
