Dakota Fanning to star in new Apple TV thriller series

Apple TV has greenlit an untitled thriller drama starring Dakota Fanning as an undercover Treasury agent. The series, created by Alex Cary, explores her character's entanglement in a multibillion-dollar international conglomerate and a personal moral conflict. Fanning will also executive produce alongside her sister Elle and other key figures.

Apple TV has officially ordered a new thriller series featuring Dakota Fanning in the lead role as an undercover agent for the U.S. Department of the Treasury. Created by Alex Cary, known for his work on the Emmy-winning series "Homeland," the yet-to-be-titled project follows Fanning's character as she embeds herself in a multibillion-dollar international conglomerate with deep political and criminal connections. According to the logline, she becomes conflicted between her mission and her belief that her principal target—an heir apparent to the corrupt power—is fundamentally a good man worthy of her love.

The production is backed by Sony Pictures Television, under Cary's overall deal, with him executive producing through his FLW Productions banner. Fanning will executive produce via Lewellen Pictures alongside her sister Elle Fanning and Brittany Kahan Ward. Additional executive producers include Julie Gardner for Bad Wolf America and Kari Skogland, who will direct the series and produce through Smoke. Skogland has previously directed episodes of "The Handmaid's Tale" and "Smoke."

Cary brings extensive experience, having co-executive produced "Homeland," which won an Emmy for Outstanding Drama Series in 2012, and developed the Cold War thriller "A Spy Among Friends" for MGM+.

Dakota Fanning recently starred opposite Sarah Snook in the Peacock limited series "All Her Fault," nominated for a Golden Globe for best limited series. In 2024, she appeared in Netflix's "Ripley" with Andrew Scott and "The Perfect Couple" led by Nicole Kidman. Through Lewellen Pictures, she is also producing the upcoming Apple TV series "Margo's Got Money Troubles," starring Elle Fanning.

This project marks another high-profile venture for Fanning, blending her acting prowess with producing responsibilities in a story of intrigue and ethical dilemmas.
