Detectives from the DCI have arrested the main suspect in the fatal shooting of a 35-year-old man in Ang’ata Barrikoi, Trans Mara South, on August 13, 2025. The attack occurred amid prolonged land ownership disputes that fueled violence throughout 2025. Investigations continue to apprehend the remaining fugitives.
On August 13, 2025, residents near Loliondo Farm in the Mashangwa area along Ngeendalel–Mashangwa Road reported hearing gunshots at night. Responding officers found the victim had been shot twice in the head at close range, launching an immediate investigation.
Preliminary findings revealed the 35-year-old man was ambushed by a gang of about eight armed men, who escaped through a nearby sugarcane plantation toward Migori County. "The crime scene was meticulously documented, and the body transferred to Kilgoris Hospital Mortuary for preservation and autopsy," a police report stated.
A manhunt ensued, and using forensic leads, detectives arrested the main suspect in Lolgorian on December 31, 2025. He was arraigned at Kilgoris Law Courts but unable to post the Ksh 100,000 cash bail, leading to his remand at Lolgorian Police Station.
The case is scheduled for mention on January 13, 2026, as probes continue to track the remaining accomplices at large. This incident ties into ongoing land ownership disputes in Trans Mara that escalated violence in 2025.
On December 16, 2025, over 30 houses were torched and several people injured in renewed clashes in Ang’ata Barikoi, along the Migori–Narok border. Armed youths targeted Llama and Rotik villages, destroying homes and property. Dozens of residents fled to a nearby primary school for shelter.
The government responded by imposing a dusk-to-dawn curfew in Trans Mara East and South sub-counties in Narok County, following clashes that killed at least seven and razed more than 120 houses.
