DirecTV has released its streaming app for Meta Quest virtual reality headsets, allowing users to watch live TV and on-demand content without a traditional screen. The company announced the launch on Thursday, marking the first multichannel video programming distributor in the VR space. Free ad-supported channels are available to all Quest owners, while paid subscriptions unlock additional programming.
DirecTV announced on Thursday that its app is now available on Meta Quest headsets, bringing live TV channels and on-demand content to virtual reality devices. Users can access the app through the Meta Horizon Store or Horizon TV on Quest models 2, 3, 3S, and Pro. The company described the launch as the first by a multichannel video programming distributor in VR headsets. DirecTV offers its MyFree lineup of ad-supported channels at no cost to any Meta Quest owner. A paid DirecTV subscription is required, however, for live sports, TV shows, movies, and on-demand selections. Other streaming services such as Disney Plus and Prime Video were already accessible on Meta's VR headsets, but DirecTV's addition introduces a broader live TV experience to the platform.
