A 9-year-old boy died after being struck by a car while riding his bicycle on the Panamericana highway. The driver of the vehicle tested negative for alcohol.
Benjamín Díaz entered the main lane of the Pilar branch on Sunday night. He was unable to brake and was struck by a Volkswagen Vento.
The 29-year-old driver had no alcohol in his blood according to tests. Investigators described the incident as a “fatalidad.”
Friends and family held a farewell for the boy, who often rode bicycles with a group.
