The Ministry of Education has started incorporating professional artists into the Kenya Music Festival following a directive by President William Ruto.
Nelson Sifuna, Head of the Directorate of Field Coordination and Co-curricular Activities, announced the development on Wednesday, July 1, during the opening of the Nairobi regional Kenya Music Festival at Buru Buru Girls.
Sifuna stated that the ministry has begun integrating talented non-teacher artists to mentor learners. He noted the aim is to expose students to industry professionals and improve performance quality.
The festival features more than 600 competition classes for learners from early childhood education to university level. Top performers will advance to national championships scheduled for August.
President Ruto issued the directive on April 17 at the Kenya National Film Festival in Nairobi. He described drama and film festivals as integral to holistic development.
