Egypt and Switzerland have signed a 1.4 million Swiss francs grant agreement to launch a project for building a national system for sustainable electronic waste management.
The agreement was signed by Minister of Local Development and Environment Manal Awad and Swiss Ambassador to Egypt Andreas Baum in the presence of Foreign Minister Badr Abdelatty.
The Circular Electronics Initiative will support an integrated framework for reuse and recycling of electrical and electronic waste in line with Egypt’s Vision 2030.
The project focuses on strengthening legislation and governance, compliance mechanisms, collection and recycling systems, and data collection while applying the Extended Producer Responsibility principle.
Switzerland’s State Secretariat for Economic Affairs will finance the project which is scheduled to run until June 30, 2029.
