Ezz Elarab Elsewedy Investments and ROX Motor have formed ROX ESI Egypt to produce new-energy vehicles locally. The agreement was signed on June 15 in the presence of two Egyptian ministers and company executives. Production is scheduled to start in 2027.
The partnership will use the existing Ezz Elsewedy Automotive Factories platform, which has received more than $100 million in investments and holds an annual capacity of about 40,000 vehicles. Plans call for capacity to rise above 80,000 vehicles in later stages.
Production of ROX REEV vehicles is set to begin in the second or third quarter of 2027. Output is expected to reach roughly 10,000 vehicles per year within the first three years, with more than half of early production directed to Gulf and African export markets from the second half of 2027.
Investment and Foreign Trade Minister Mohamed Farid described the project as a model of technology-driven investment that supports local manufacturing and exports. Industry Minister Khaled Hashem said the deal marks a shift from planning to implementation under Egypt’s National Automotive Industry Strategy, which targets 100,000 vehicles annually by 2030.
