Colombia's electric vehicle market grew 304% in April 2026, reaching 5,192 registered units. Tesla ranked as the third best-selling brand in March and entered the top 3 in April. This surge is part of a 54% overall increase in new vehicle registrations through April.
According to the Vehicle Registration Report through April 2026 by Andi and Fenalco, Colombia registered 26,787 new vehicles, a 54% increase from the same period in 2025. This marks the sector's best start in over a decade.
The electric segment drove growth with 14,541 units year-to-date, up 207%. April saw electric registrations rise 304% to 5,192 units, while hybrids grew 73.4% to 27,238 units. Tesla, arriving late 2025, recorded 2,458 registrations in March, ranking third behind Kia and Renault, with the Model Y as the top seller (1,791 units).
Tesla's country manager Karen Scarpetta emphasized direct operations without intermediaries. “Tesla designs, builds, engineers, produces the vehicles and handles all logistics to experience centers. Here nothing is outsourced, no intermediaries,” she said. Centers are at Centro Comercial Andino in Bogotá and El Tesoro in Medellín, with prices from $109.9 million.
Tesla's entry heightens competition, lowers prices and speeds electric adoption, fueled by tax incentives and environmental rules. Challenges remain in charging infrastructure and repair delays up to three months.
