Chile's National Automotive Association (ANAC) reported that 5,411 electrified vehicles were sold in May, an increase of nearly 90% from the same month in 2025. In the first five months of the year, 24,213 units were registered, equivalent to 68% of total 2025 sales.
ANAC detailed that plug-in vehicles reached 1,579 units in May, up 125.9% from May 2025. Year to date through May 2026 they total 7,802 registrations, 162.9% more than the prior year.
Non-plug-in vehicles recorded 16,411 units in the first five months, led by microhybrids with 9,698 and conventional hybrids with 6,713. Plug-in penetration reached 6.1% of the light and medium vehicle market.
The association stated that Chile remains in an early adoption stage. “Although the percentage growth is high, the accumulated penetration of 6.1% is still far from the levels necessary to achieve effective massification,” the report indicates. ANAC called for reviewing regulatory and public policy conditions to speed up the transition.
