Epic Games is developing a new version of its launcher that promises significantly improved speed. The effort follows public complaints about the current software's performance.
The company detailed the project during a presentation at Unreal Fest. Launcher V2 is expected to start five times faster on average and restore 6.5 times quicker from the system tray.
A February statement from Epic said the firm is rebuilding the underlying architecture of the Epic Games Store Launcher. Improvements are planned for release this summer, with a private beta set to precede wider availability.
Additional updates to the storefront will include in-store patch notes, player reviews, quick-access categories and a personalized home page. The firm acknowledged that developers and players have faced ongoing challenges with the existing launcher.
