Authorities in Texas have arrested Breyanai Moore for the death of her estranged husband, Lonnie Moore, which was initially believed to be a suicide but later ruled a homicide. The incident occurred in June 2025, and Moore was taken into custody nine months later. Police investigations revealed details about the couple's separation and the events leading to the shooting.
On the morning of June 15, 2025, around 9 a.m., Lonnie Moore, 33, was found dead from a gunshot wound inside a running vehicle on the side of the road in New Caney, Texas. At the time, authorities believed the wound was self-inflicted, but further examination of the scene evidence led to a homicide ruling by the Montgomery County Sheriff's Office.
Breyanai Moore, 31, Lonnie's estranged wife, was arrested on a Thursday in early March 2026 in connection with the case. The couple, who shared a 5-year-old daughter, had been separated for two years. According to court documents, Breyanai told police she had texted Lonnie that morning about filing for divorce. However, a friend reported to investigators that Breyanai used a burner phone to lure Lonnie to pick her up. The friend stated that Breyanai entered the back seat of the vehicle and allegedly shot him when he reached for something in the back.
Surveillance footage from Flock cameras in the neighborhood captured Breyanai near the scene that morning, as identified by her own mother. The mother told police her daughter appeared consumed by guilt following Lonnie's death, noting she had lost weight and cried often. She also mentioned that Breyanai hated her estranged husband and had wished harm on him.
Breyanai Moore faces a murder charge and is being held without bond at the Montgomery County Jail. Her next court appearance is scheduled for March 31. The case highlights the complexities in investigating deaths initially classified as suicides, as detailed in the sheriff's office announcement.
