Eulogio Sánchez aerodrome celebrates 71 years with aerial shows and Senapred agreement

The Eulogio Sánchez Aerodrome, formerly known as Tobalaba, marked its 71st anniversary with an open-door event drawing over 2,000 attendees. The day featured aerial acrobatics and aircraft displays, spotlighting a new agreement with Senapred for emergency operations. Organized by the Club Aéreo de Chile-Santiago and La Reina Municipality, the event highlighted the site's community safety role.

On Saturday, the Eulogio Sánchez Aerodrome in La Reina hosted a large-scale celebration for its 71st anniversary. Over 2,000 attendees enjoyed aerial acrobatics and displays of classic and modern aircraft, showcasing the evolution of air transport.

The event was organized by the Club Aéreo de Chile-Santiago (CAS), one of the site's owners, in partnership with La Reina Municipality. A key highlight was the recent signing of a protocol agreement with the National Service for Prevention and Response to Disasters (Senapred). This deal aims to transform the aerodrome into a vital hub during catastrophes, leveraging its 52 hectares for emergency aircraft takeoffs and landings, setting up field hospitals, patient care zones, and storage of critical supplies.

“This agreement is a joint action between private entities and the State that will expand Chile's response capacity in real emergency situations,” stated Hans Gesche, CAS president, underscoring the commitment to community safety and well-being.

La Reina's mayor, José Manuel Palacios, added: “This day not only allows our neighbors to learn firsthand about the aerodrome's work but also strengthens the bond between the community and an institution that has been fundamental to local development. This celebration reflects the municipality's ongoing commitment to initiatives that bolster La Reina's identity and community life.”

The event underscores the aerodrome's historical significance in local development and its future potential in national emergency management.
