Senator Flávio Bolsonaro criticized President Lula during a live broadcast in Washington on Sunday. He claimed the president seeks political gains from US tariffs on Brazilian products.
Flávio Bolsonaro took part in a live stream alongside his brother Eduardo Bolsonaro. The senator and pre-candidate for president from PL-RJ is in the US capital for a USTR hearing on Tuesday.
He stated that Lula is the only person in the world who wants the 25% tariffs proposed by the US agency. According to Flávio, the president sees political returns from the measure and fails to fight corruption.
The USTR is investigating Brazilian trade practices, including Pix, and set a deadline of July 15 for corrections. Flávio sent a document to the US requesting postponement of the tariffs until after the elections and offering benefits such as elimination of rates on ethanol.
Lula responded to the document on social media. The president described the Bolsonaro family's attitude as subservience and called them traitors to the homeland.
