A former Chinese official has been sentenced to death for accepting bribes worth US$323 million over three decades.
Yang Youlin, who held senior roles in Nanjing’s Jiangning district including director of the Jiangning District Construction Bureau, was convicted by the Changzhou Intermediate People’s Court.
The court found that Yang manipulated engineering contracts, land transfers and financial operations between 1993 and 2023 in exchange for kickbacks from private companies.
The sentence is among the harshest handed down in recent Chinese corruption cases.
