Four people died in a gun battle in Samburu County on Saturday after armed raiders attacked herders. Security forces from the Kenya Defence Forces and General Service Unit responded to the raid.
The attack took place at Nolkera Village in Samburu West. About 40 bandits crossed from Baringo County and attempted to steal livestock from local herders. Three civilians were killed during the raid.
KDF and GSU officers from nearby camps engaged the attackers in a firefight. One suspected bandit died in the exchange. Officers recovered all the stolen livestock.
The bodies were taken to Samburu County Referral Hospital mortuary. The incident occurred less than 48 hours after Interior Cabinet Secretary Kipchumba Murkomen visited the area and announced measures against banditry.
