Uruapan's mayor, Grecia Quiroz García, has denounced an alleged attempt at a political trial to remove her from office, three and a half months after her husband Carlos Manzo's assassination. In a social media post, she claimed they seek to silence her voice and the Hat Movement. So far, no formal procedure has been initiated in the Michoacán Congress.
Grecia Quiroz García, mayor of Uruapan in Michoacán, publicly denounced on February 14, 2026, via a Facebook post. She claimed there are intentions to politically try her for removal, linking this to the assassination of her husband, former mayor Carlos Manzo Rodríguez, which occurred on November 1, 2025, during a public event. 'Today they want to politically try me. Today they want to silence a voice', Quiroz wrote.
In her message, the mayor decried the lack of justice for Manzo's homicide: 'They have not tried the true assassins of Carlos Manzo, and the people know that'. She defended the Hat Movement's political project, which she assumed after designation approved by the Michoacán Congress in November 2025, and warned that even if she is removed or arrested, the movement will persist: 'Even if they try me. Even if they remove me. Even if they put me in jail. Even if they try to silence me in any way. They can no longer stop this movement'.
To date, no formal political trial against Quiroz has been initiated in the state Congress. Local legislators have requested reviews from the Superior Audit Office of Michoacán on municipal resource management, particularly variations in property tax collection. Quiroz views these actions as political pressures aimed at weakening her leadership, amid ongoing investigations into Manzo's assassination involving municipal officials and close associates.
Since taking office, Quiroz has faced threats and administrative scrutiny. Recently, she made cabinet changes, appointing Infantry Colonel Omar Guadarrama Brito as the new Municipal Public Security Secretary, replacing Francisco Nieto Osorio. This aims to strengthen the security strategy in coordination with federal authorities, including Secretary Omar García Harfuch, to combat violence in Uruapan. Quiroz described her project as one that 'was born from pain, but also from dignity'.
