Green Day surprised attendees at San Diego Comic-Con with a performance of their hit song 'Basket Case' from atop an ice cream truck. The appearance took place on July 24 to promote the band's upcoming film Nimrods.
The band performed outside Petco Park at Gallagher Square. Billie Joe Armstrong started the set on the roof of a Mister Freezie’s truck branded with the film title, and was later joined by Mike Dirnt and Tré Cool.
Armstrong threw ice creams, T-shirts and cassette tapes to the crowd before the group climbed inside the truck to hand out treats. Actors Mason Thames and Jenna Fischer, who star in the film, as well as writer and director Lee Kirk, were also on hand.
Nimrods is scheduled for limited release in UK cinemas on August 11 and US theaters on August 14. The movie follows three friends who travel cross-country after thinking their band has secured a support slot with Green Day.
An accompanying soundtrack album featuring 22 Green Day songs is set for release on July 31.
