Two cars collided head-on on a mountain road in Kiruna municipality on Tuesday evening, leading to the road being closed during the rescue operation. Three people were involved, and two were taken to hospital by ambulance. The accident occurred just after 7 p.m. on road 870 between Kaalasjärvi and Nikkaluokta.
The accident took place on the mountain road just after 7 p.m. on November 11, 2025. According to the SOS alarm operator, it was a head-on collision between two cars, with three people involved. Two ambulances were dispatched to the scene.
"Three people are involved in the accident and we have two ambulances on site," says the alarm operator at SOS.
Two of those involved were taken to hospital by ambulance, but their injury status is unknown. It was snowing in the area during the evening, which may have contributed to the circumstances of the accident.
The rescue operation concluded around 8:10 p.m., and the road was completely closed for about one hour before reopening. Kiruna municipality is in Norrbotten, and road 870 is a typical mountain road that can be exposed to weather conditions in winter.
