The City of Cape Town’s Disaster Risk Management and the SA Weather Service have warned of high temperatures reaching 30°C in the Western Cape starting Friday. The heatwave, lasting from November 7 to 9, raises the risk of veld fires. Officials advise the public to stay hydrated and protect vulnerable groups.
Cape Town residents are bracing for a heatwave as cautioned by the City of Cape Town’s Disaster Risk Management and the South African Weather Service (SAWS). The advisory, issued on November 6, 2025, targets the western areas of the Western Cape, with hot conditions expected from November 7 to 9.
Disaster Risk Management spokesperson Sonica Lategan highlighted the dangers, stating that temperatures are forecast to climb to 30°C, increasing the risk of veld fires. 'The hot temperatures are expected to climb to 30°C, which also increases the risk of veld fires,' she said.
To mitigate health risks, Lategan urged the public to 'stay out of direct sunlight, wear light clothing and sunscreen, remain hydrated, and pay particular attention to the well-being of children, the elderly and other vulnerable groups.' The SAWS echoed this in a tweet: '🥵Heatwave advisory: 07 – 09 November 2025 Affected area: Western Cape (western areas).'
This warning comes amid South Africa's variable weather patterns, though recent reports noted contrasting downpours in the region. Authorities emphasize proactive measures to avoid heat-related illnesses and fire outbreaks during the period.
