Henry Cavill, known for roles in The Witcher and as Superman, has taken on the lead in the Highlander reboot, directed by Chad Stahelski of the John Wick series. On January 28, 2026, Cavill posted two first-look images on Instagram, captioning them: “Happy First Look for Highlander! This has been quite the journey for me, which I’ll tell you all about when the time is right, but it’s a special moment to be able to share this. I hope you enjoy.”
The photos show Cavill wielding a large sword in what appears to be varied locations, suggesting a globe-trotting adventure similar in tone to John Wick's action style. Announced in 2021, production faced delays last year when Cavill suffered a leg injury during preparations. Filming has now begun.
The cast includes Russell Crowe, Karen Gillan, Djimon Hounsou, Dave Bautista, Marisa Abela, and Max Zhang. Michael Finch penned the script, with earlier drafts by Ryan J. Condal and Kerry Williamson.
The original Highlander, released in 1986, starred Christopher Lambert as Connor MacLeod, an immortal Scottish warrior born in the 16th century. Sean Connery played his mentor, Juan Sánchez-Villalobos Ramírez, while Clancy Brown portrayed the antagonist, The Kurgan, in a story set partly in 1980s New York City. The franchise expanded with a 1991 sequel featuring Lambert and Connery, plus TV series and novels.
