Hong Kong police arrested 65 people during a two-day operation targeting illicit income sources linked to triads.
Hong Kong police arrested 65 people, including 11 non-local sex workers and 54 others involved in suspected illegal gambling, during a joint operation with fire services and immigration authorities. The raids took place on Thursday and Friday across the Tai Po and Sheung Shui districts.
Officers targeted five illegal gambling parlours and four premises involved in illegal prostitution. They also shut down a 279-square-metre illegal petrol station. Three additional people received summonses for operating the station.
Superintendent Lui Sze-ho said some triad members had converted tenement buildings and residential flats into illegal mahjong parlours. Others exploited the World Cup to control illegal football betting.
Authorities seized gambling tools, about HK$30,000 in betting proceeds and more than 18,000 litres of illicit fuel.
