A horse named Rani plunged into a stormwater drain in Vadodara after a concrete cover collapsed. Vadodara Fire and Emergency Services rescued the animal after an hour-long effort.
The incident took place near Khiskoli Circle in the Kalali area. The horse stepped on a roadside drainage slab that gave way, sending it several feet underground. Its owner fell onto the road and avoided the fall. A team from the Makarpura GIDC Fire Station responded to the emergency call. Initial attempts to pull the horse out manually failed because the narrow chamber trapped the animal. Officers used a rock driller to widen the opening. The horse owner entered the chamber to calm the mare. Fire personnel then used advanced rescue equipment to lift the horse out. Traffic police managed vehicles at the busy junction during the operation. The event has drawn attention to the condition of drainage covers across the city.
