Following the House justice committee's adoption of its impeachment report, members have one week to study the articles against Vice President Sara Duterte before a potential plenary vote on May 11, justice chair Rep. Jinky Luistro said. The timeline complies with a July 2025 Supreme Court ruling on due process.
MANILA, Philippines — After the House justice committee unanimously adopted its report finding probable cause to impeach Vice President Sara Duterte on May 4, members now have a one-week window—until Sunday—to review the approved Articles of Impeachment, Rep. Jinky Luistro, the committee chair, announced.
In a dzMM interview on Monday, May 5, Luistro said the five-day period allows administration, opposition, and independent lawmakers to assess allegations of betrayed public trust, including corruption, misuse of funds, and threats against President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. “From my perspective as justice chair, by May 11, the plenary should be ready to vote,” she said.
The timeline ensures fairness and adherence to a Supreme Court ruling from July 2025 on the prior impeachment attempt, which emphasized providing copies of the committee report, resolution, articles, and evidence to lawmakers for reasonable study time before any plenary vote. “That’s part of due process,” the lawyer-legislator added.
This follows the committee's April 29 probable cause determination and sets the stage for a House plenary vote needing at least 106 members to transmit the articles to the Senate.
