Hyderabad has named a road after President Donald Trump. The avenue was dedicated on Tuesday next to the U.S. Consulate in the city's financial district.
Telangana Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy and U.S. Ambassador to India Sergio Gor unveiled the name during an American 250 celebration.
Trump posted on Truth Social that it was the first time a U.S. president had received such an honor in India. He thanked the organizers for the gesture.
Gor highlighted strong U.S.-India ties and noted an interim trade agreement expected to bring over $20 billion in new investment. Members of the Bharatiya Janata Party expressed anger at Trump's response, while the Communist Party of India called the name outrageous and filed a petition to change it.
