The International Olympic Committee has confirmed it will not investigate FIFA president Gianni Infantino after receiving a complaint regarding his relationship with US President Donald Trump during the World Cup.
The IOC stated that the complaint fell outside the remit of its Ethics Commission. It explained that the matter concerned FIFA’s governance and relations with governments, which are not covered by the IOC Code of Ethics.
The complaint came from human rights organisation FairSquare. It alleged that Infantino breached rules on political neutrality by expressing support for Trump.
Trump had contacted Infantino to request a review of the red card shown to United States striker Folarin Balogun. The player’s one-match suspension was later suspended for 12 months, allowing him to play in the last-16 match against Belgium.
