The Institute for Peace and Conflict Resolution and the Secretary to the Government of the Federation have condemned the killing of Ardo Risku Mohammed, chairman of the Miyetti Allah Cattle Breeders Association of Nigeria Benue State chapter.
The Institute for Peace and Conflict Resolution described the incident as a major setback to ongoing peacebuilding efforts in Benue State. In a statement signed on Sunday by its Director-General, Dr. Joseph Ochogwu, the institute noted that Mohammed was widely known for promoting dialogue, reconciliation and peaceful coexistence among communities.
The Secretary to the Government of the Federation, Sen. George Akume, also condemned the killing and called for swift justice. The IPCR commended security agencies for arresting about 10 suspects in connection with the incident.
The institute urged security agencies to conduct a thorough, transparent and impartial investigation. It appealed to community leaders, youth groups and religious leaders to remain calm and avoid actions that could escalate tensions.
