Ja Morant sidelined for at least two weeks with calf strain

Memphis Grizzlies star Ja Morant is expected to miss at least two weeks due to a Grade 1 right calf strain. The injury occurred during a recent game, adding to the team's challenges amid a four-game losing streak. Morant has averaged 17.9 points, 3.5 rebounds and 7.6 assists this season.

The Memphis Grizzlies announced on Monday that Ja Morant will be out of the lineup for at least another two weeks with a Grade 1 right calf strain. Morant last played on Friday against Cleveland, where he scored seven points in six minutes before exiting with right calf soreness. He had missed the previous game on Wednesday in Boston due to a sore right ankle.

Grizzlies coach Tuomas Iisalo noted that Morant was injured on November 11 in a loss at New York, where he played 34 minutes and recorded 16 points and 10 assists. Prior to the injury, Morant had appeared in five straight games following a one-game suspension on November 2 at Toronto for conduct detrimental to the team.

This season, the two-time All-Star is averaging 17.9 points, 3.5 rebounds and 7.6 assists per game, while shooting 35.9% from the field and 16.7% from three-point range—a career low. The Grizzlies, currently 4-10, have lost four straight games and face a tough schedule with six of their next eight on the road.

The team has dealt with multiple injuries, including shooting guard Ty Jerome (high-grade right calf strain), guard Scotty Pippen Jr. (left big toe) and Brandon Clarke (knee surgery). Center Zach Edey recently returned against Cleveland. To bolster their thin guard depth, Memphis signed rookie Jahmai Mashack to a two-way contract on Sunday; he was the 59th overall pick in the June draft and has been with the Memphis Hustle in the G League.

"Memphis Grizzlies star Ja Morant will be sidelined for approximately two weeks with a Grade 1 calf strain," reported Chris Haynes on November 17, 2025.
