Brazilian tennis player João Fonseca announced on Saturday his withdrawal from the Hamburg ATP 500 due to mild discomfort in his right wrist. The decision was made with his team as a precaution ahead of Roland Garros.
João Fonseca, 19, and currently ranked 29th in the world, announced the withdrawal in a social media post. He noted feeling discomfort in his right wrist and chose to pull out of the tournament that starts Sunday in Germany.
The Brazilian thanked the event organizers for their hospitality since arriving in Hamburg. His next commitment is Roland Garros, which begins on May 24 in Paris, where he will be seeded for the first time.
Fonseca has faced physical challenges this season, including back issues that led him to withdraw from earlier events. He aims to preserve his form for the French Grand Slam.
