English midfielder Jordan Henderson will miss the rest of the 2026 World Cup after injuring his wrist during celebrations following England's win over Mexico.
England defeated Mexico 3-2 in the round of 16 at Estadio Ciudad de México and advanced to the quarterfinals against Norway. Henderson, 36 and playing for Brentford, did not feature in the match but received a yellow card.
During post-match celebrations with supporters, Henderson tried to jump an advertising hoarding and fell, suffering a serious wrist injury. He was stretchered off and taken to hospital.
Coach Thomas Tuchel confirmed the player remains in a Mexico City hospital. “Se lesionó la muñeca y en este momento está en el hospital. Es una lesión bastante seria”, he said.
The Athletic reported that Henderson will undergo surgery, ending his participation in the tournament.
