Residents of Kericho County held demonstrations on Saturday 11 July 2026 against an alleged change to the Standard Gauge Railway route that would bypass the proposed Chebilat terminal.
Demonstrators claimed the route surveyed in 2022 had been altered without public consultation. They said the changes would deny the county economic benefits from the multibillion-shilling project.
One protester said the SGR was brought to benefit Kericho residents and that land succession had already been done with many awaiting compensation. He stressed they would not accept the route change.
The protesters appealed to the government to restore the original route and retain the Chebilat station. They cited similar concerns raised the same day by residents of Chebinyiny over the proposed Sotik North station.
