Mercedes driver Kimi Antonelli secured pole position for the 2026 British Grand Prix after winning the sprint race at Silverstone. The 19-year-old overtook Lewis Hamilton to claim his first Saturday victory of the season.
Antonelli qualified on pole with a lap of 1m28.111s, ahead of Ferrari's Charles Leclerc in second. Hamilton and Mercedes teammate George Russell completed the top four on the grid.
The Italian had earlier won the sprint race by passing Hamilton on lap 10. He finished 2.745 seconds ahead, with Lando Norris third.
Sky Sports analyst Martin Brundle called Antonelli the driver to beat in the championship. Jenson Button praised race engineer Peter Bonnington for providing a calming influence.
Antonelli leads the drivers' standings with 179 points. The British Grand Prix race is scheduled to start at 3pm BST on Sunday.
