Lenovo has released the ThinkPad X1 Carbon Gen 14, featuring a new space frame chassis that improves repairability while retaining the classic ultraportable design. The model uses Intel Core Ultra 300 series processors and offers an optional OLED display at no extra cost.
The laptop maintains the familiar boxy, matte black exterior with red accents and weighs just under 2.2 pounds. Its interior layout has been reengineered with a smaller motherboard and larger cooling fans to support easier component access.
Users can replace the battery, cooling fans, keyboard, speakers and some USB ports after removing 13 standard Phillips screws and disconnecting four ribbon cables. The SSD is also replaceable in its single M.2 slot, though RAM remains non-upgradable after purchase.
Performance matches the prior generation with no notable gains, while battery life on a YouTube streaming test dropped to nearly 15 hours from almost 18 hours previously. Pricing begins at $2,139 for a base configuration with 32GB of RAM, and the tested model with a Core Ultra 7 355 processor, 32GB RAM and OLED screen costs $2,374.
